PERSONAL EXHIBITION OF STUDENT OF OBJECT ART STUDY PROGRAMME
MONIKA IMBRASAITĖ
FROM FORM TO FUNCTION
The creation of leather accessories is a field of applied art characterised by a subtle combination of craftsmanship, creativity and leatherworking techniques.
Monika Imbrasaitė, a student of the Academy of Arts of the Faculty of Arts and Education of Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution mastered four specialisations which are taught in the Object Art study programme: leather, glass, ceramics and textiles, and wanted to try new fields for creation. This desire led her to incorporate a different material element – wood – into her leather artworks.
Being familiar with the work of artists working with wood, M. Imbrasaitė had the idea of combining two materials – leather and wood – and created unique, functional pieces based on elegance and femininity.
M. Imbrasaitė combines the organic charm of leather with the delicacy of wood in the personal exhibition “From Form to Function”. Each artwork reflects how these two materials harmonise with each other. The young artist’s aesthetic solutions blur the boundaries between art and functionality. The artworks offer an opportunity to explore these materials more closely in contemporary fashion, highlighting how the intersection of tradition and modernity can be transformed into a functional object.
Whether the viewer is a fashion enthusiast or simply appreciates artistic innovation, this exhibition, inspired by the fusion of leather and wood, is sure to help to step back from the usual art and fashion standards.
