Exhibition of Paintings by the Students of the Object Conservation and Restoration Study Programme
The exhibition features paintings by students of the Object Conservation and Restoration study program of the Academy of Arts of the Faculty of Arts and Education of the Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution. The works were created during students’ studies as part of a creative assignment focused on analyzing the principles of open and closed composition and the relationship between warm and cool color tones.
The exhibition “Nearly a Century Later” invites viewers to look back at the past and connect it with the present, revealing the continuity of the creative legacy of the Kaunas Art School. The students’ paintings emerged as a creative dialogue with the artworks of artists from the first half of the 20th century – graduates of the Kaunas Art School – nearly a century after their student days. Students’ paintings are not copies of historical pieces – they are independent, analytical, and creative interpretations based on an examination of the artistic language, compositional, and coloristic principles of the selected artists.
The artworks of Vincas Grybas, Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas, Antanas Samuolis, Stasys Ušinskas, and Viktoras Vizgirda served as the starting points for these interpretations, inviting viewers to rediscover and rethink them in today’s context.
Students currently studying at the very same art school carried out their creative assignments by analyzing and interpreting historical artworks. The principles of open and closed composition, as well as the relationship between warm and cool color palettes, became tools for rethinking the artistic experience of the past and bringing it to life through the eyes of a contemporary young artist.
The exhibition reflects a vibrant cultural connection between different generations – the artwork of Kaunas Art School alumni serves as a source of inspiration for the younger generation, who are studying and creating today while continuing and reflecting on the tradition of Lithuanian art.
The Exhibition is Accompanying The International Interdisciplinary Students‘ Conference “Forum of Ideas 2026”.
